Bio: Scion of darkness and guardian of the Holy Realm, made by the gods in opposition to the Transcendent Loghril, scion of light. He gets his name from his appearance for being half man and half monster. His story is a sad one. When he was created, he was immediately entitled a mistake and being discarded. He quickly challenged the gods and lost the battle. He hated his masters but quickly found a new one, the Dynast King. He now protects his new master's tomb for all eternity.

Belias is part of the story line, no matter what; you are bound to get him. He is the first summon/esper in the game and in also the weakest. He is useful at the beginning the game when facing weak enemies and completely the first few hunts.

Name: Mateus, the Corrupt

Location: The Stilshrine of Miriam (Story Related)

Bio: Scion of darkness ruling and protecting who lives in the underworld in opposition to Lahabrea, Abyssai Celebrant and scion of light. During his rule, he gave into greediness allowing his heart to be taken by darkness. The darkness changed him until he was both evil and corrupt. When he was weak, he attached the Goddess of the Demesne of Ice to himself and used her as a shield. With his protection, he challenged the gods but it still was not enough. He fell into the dark depths of hell where he was imprisoned for eternity.

Mateus is the second summon/esper that is encountered in the game. Since it is using an ice goddess as a shield, it uses a lot of ice magicks of higher levels. It's a useful element when facing enemies that are weak against ice. It is also good at healing so it can last longer when fighting a group of enemies.

Bio: Scion that is both horse and woman wielding total control over the souls that wonder the underworld, in opposition to the Martyr Igeyohm, scion of light. She once served as a guardian for the gods when Ultima rebelled against them. Shemhazai went to her and told her the weaknesses of the gods. Then she walked the land of man without the gods' permission and told the men of destructive evil. For her actions, she was injured down and imprisoned.

She is the third summon/esper that you gain in the storyline. Most of her attacks do not affect tougher enemies and bosses. It's best to save her for normal battle or not so tough enemies.

Bio: Scion set by the gods use and control the laws of the world and with godly power to lead mankind back to order. He was created to oppose Fandaniel the Protector, the scion of light. Wanting to bring order to all things, he joined and helped Ultima with her battle against the gods. He used his body to fight in the Thousand-Years War. When his strength was all gone, he fell into the burning fires of hell.

Hashmal is also one of the few that you fight in the main storyline. His earth attacks are very strong and are very effective against flying monsters. Getting his final attack is very difficult since the Summoner's HP has to be near critical. So the best way is to have the character already in critical health and then summon him.

Bio: The revolting and darkly clouded form of Famfrit opposed the Holy Queen Emmerololth, the scion of light. He was an abomination even to his makers. After a great battle, his body was broken and sealed armor laced with wards. There is no light in his armor so he is called the Darkening Cloud. Men fear the rain that comes from the black cloud that drips from the container as a sign of chaos and waste.

Famfrit is the last Esper that you obtain in the main storyline. It offers powerful Water attacks that are more powerful than any magick in your party. Use this Esper against foes that are weak against Water.
